Joel’s company makes websites & he’s been in the game for a long old time. He was wrestling with IE3 (yes 3!) and table-based layouts whilst many of the current generation of coders were still on the potty. Whilst this means he is old & decrepit, it does also mean that he has lots of experience which he’s more than willing to share.
Joel has been in permanent roles (American Express, British Airways), has contracted, has freelanced at agencies & has now been working for himself, and now managing a team, for over 13 years.
Joel’s current website is at http://joelhughes.com but that is subject to change as his business is on the move.
He also runs the Port80 web & ‘The Business of Web Design’ conferences in South Wales (http://port80events.co.uk/ &
http://2014.thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk/).
He is married to Jess, has two children (Lily & Gene) and one cat (Mr Pickles).
David is the boss at interconnect/it in Liverpool. He’s the boss because he’s the worst coder on the team and is also willing to stand up and talk to people. He’s also old, has been round the IT block a few times, and without too much prompting, will probably ramble on about how he’s seen it all before and that we can learn a lot from how things were done on old machines.
I’m a Generalist through-and-through: none of this “not my job” nonsense. I’ve turned my hand to many tasks – from hiring to requirements capture, from writing bids to security reviewing websites, from writing wordpress plugins to publishing ruby gems.
I value small teams, short iterations and lots of client and user feedback. Clients who understand that web sites and services are for their users and not for them are good clients. I love the expressiveness of Ruby, and I don’t think I could work somewhere that doesn’t use git.
I’m an Amazon bestselling author, online teacher, graphic designer, entrepreneur, and ex-slacker who wants freedom for you and success for your business.
I want to help and inspire people to build sustainable online businesses, financial independence, earn passive income and experience greater freedom, health and happiness in their lives.
My company aims to provide the best design and marketing services possible. We offer complete web and branding solutions whilst putting the client at the center of our working day.
Since 1992 I have been working as a designer for print and web in advertising agencies, marketing consultants and publishers in London. Before this I was a journalist and designer for EMAP and BBC magazines and then progressed to The Guardian and The Independent newspapers and their color supplements in London, UK.
